About Rhian Owen

Rhian Owen Welsh Artist

I have a love of Art and a passion for Nature. My love of nature stems back to my childhood when I used to spend hours in the countryside exploring, studying wildflowers and collecting mini beasts to observe them. One of my favourites then were Ladybirds and I still love seeing them.

After leaving school I went to Art college. I developed my drawing skills and produced a lot of Life drawings. I also developed a keen interest in photography.

I later went to train to be a teacher and specialised in Art and science.

After teaching for many years I took a break to have my two children and then went back to teach part time. As my boys grew up, I found I had more time to start drawing again. I treated myself to a box of lovely watercolours for my birthday and that is where it all started again.

My childhood interests were all still there so I decided to draw and paint what I loved.

I started with the wildflowers on our lanes and then moved onto Hares, Owls and Ladybirds.

I love Wales and its beautiful landscapes and beaches, and I intend to do a lot more paintings of these in the future. I love visiting Powys Castle and admire the beautiful herds of deer and stags.

Most of my work is done in Watercolours but I do sometimes used mixed media like acrylics and pens for texture and detail.
